IVF Spain, philosophy, treatments and excellence in their field

As we browsed through Instagram recently, we stumbled across a stunning image of what has to be the most beautiful waiting room.

The reflection of the palm trees in the window, the leather seats and the beautiful roses looked so inviting. We noticed it was from a clinic based in Alicante – IVF Spain. We got straight on the phone and spoke with Inge Kormelink from the clinic.

IVF Spain clearly care about their patient’s experience of fertility treatment, but we wanted to find out more about their philosophy and the treatments they offer.

Can you tell us more about IVF Spain?

IVF Spain Alicante is an international assisted reproduction clinic that counts on almost a decade of experience in the field. Being a pioneer in the field of scientific innovation and clinical investigation, it has become a reference in technology and a specialist in complicated cases. IVF Spain Alicante relies on clinical excellence with a cumulative pregnancy rate of up to 90%.

What is your clinics philosophy?

Our philosophy is based on providing personalised treatment to patients and on the adaptation of the whole process to their mother language, with the aim of making them feel perfectly cared for and understood. IVF Spain counts on a medical team with an ample professional trajectory and renowned prestige in the world of assisted reproduction.

Empathy and respect towards patients are fundamental values for the IVF Spain team which aims to provide the maximum comfort to their patients, and with that reduce their stress; all of these being essential aspects when it comes to undergoing any fertility treatment.

What are your most important accomplishments within scientific research and technical innovation?

In the past few years, IVF Spain has achieved a great number of innovative advances in the field of assisted reproduction, therefore consolidating its position as a reference in scientific research and technological innovation. Some of the most important accomplishments are:

  • Clinical validation and release of the first pre-conception genetic test of 213 identifiable monogenic diseases (Recombine) in Europe
  • Development of a spermatic vitrification kit, an alternative to the traditional freezing
  • Development of an endometrial receptivity test (ER-MAP)
  • Embryonic viability test based on the embryo’s metabolomics (GERI +)

How would you describe your commitment with your patients?

IVF Spain’s commitment with our patients drives us to ensure there is a source of constant innovation and technology reinforcing our position at the forefront of research in the field of assisted reproduction.  This is how we have come to specialise in complex cases, such as:

  • Patients with implantation failures
  • Immunological and genetic issues that influence or impede conception
  • Recurrent miscarriage

How are your success rates certified and by which regulatory body?

The German entity TÜV (Technischer Überwachungs-Verein), one of the strictest certifying organisations in the world, has certified IVF Spain’s high success rates. According to this German group’s rating, IVF Spain is among the European reproduction centres with the best results, based on data from 2014.

The sum of these factors reflects in the achievement of pregnancy rates significantly higher than the Spanish average established by the SEF (Sociedad Española de Fertilidad).

Can you describe IVF Spain’s facilities?

The clinic counts on three laboratories and two transfer theatres for minor surgery. They are equipped with the last advanced in assisted reproduction technology and they are at the disposal of a team of doctors and embryologists capable of providing the best solution to their patients. The sanitary facilities, as well as the entire clinic fulfils the quality standards imposed by the Spanish authorities and the quality norm ISO; also certified by TÜV

The three laboratories in IVF Spain rely on cutting edge technology and are self-sufficient enough for all tests to be performed without the staff or the samples leaving the premises, which implies greater swiftness in finding the root of the infertility problem and in providing the most appropriate clinic solution for each case.

What treatments do you offer?

Natural Cycle & IVF

The Natural Cycle is a very simple type of in vitro fertilization which is performed using the patient’s natural cycle. It is also possible to perform it under a minimal ovarian stimulation with the aim to obtain one or two oocytes (eggs), which will be fertilised in the laboratory. It can be done with the partner’s or a donor’s sperm.

In the case that the specialist considers that the natural cycle or minimal stimulation would not be enough, we can always resort to the traditional IVF with a complete stimulation.

Ropa Method

This is also called reciprocal IVF. It is the solution for lesbian couples that decide to start a family. It is a treatment that is becoming more and more popular among lesbian couples since it offers the possibility of both members actively participating in the reproductive process: one will undergo the ovarian stimulation and provide the eggs so that the other can receive the resulting embryo and give birth to a baby.

Egg donation or treatment with donated eggs

Due to numerous causes (age, early menopause, genetic disease, ovarian resection, chemotherapy or localised radiotherapy for cancer), a woman may lose her ability to produce good quality eggs (or to produce them at all). In these cases egg donation can safely and reliably help to achieve pregnancy.
